Sabbagh meets with UNDOF Commander on the occasion of the end of his mission

Damascus, (ST) –  Foreign and Expatriates Minister Bassam Sabbagh today  received Major General Nirmal Thapa, Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) operating in the occupied Syrian Golan, on a farewell visit on the occasion of the end of his mission in Syria.

During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts made by Major General Thapa during his term of office, and noted the importance of UNDOF continuing to fulfill its mandate, and the role it plays in monitoring Israeli occupation violations along the separation line in the occupied Syrian Golan.

Minister Sabbagh renewed Syria’s condemnation and rejection of the illegal measures recently taken by the occupation entity along the line, which constitute a flagrant violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. He stressed the need for the Security Council to put an end to these violations.

For his part, Major General Thapa stressed the commitment of UNDOF forces to work on implementing the mandate granted to them and monitoring the ceasefire line in the separation area, expressing his appreciation for the support provided by Syria to UNDOF.
