Sabbagh in Tehran for talks on developments in the region, bilateral relations

Tehran, (ST) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh arrived today in the Iranian capital Tehran at the head of an official delegation on a working visit during which he will discuss with senior Iranian officials means of enhancing bilateral relations and developments in the region.

Minister Sabbagh is accompanied by Deputy Minister Ayman Raad, Director of the Afro-Asian and Oceanian Affairs Department Tamam Suleiman and Director of the Executive Support Department Al-Hakam Dandi.

The delegation was received by Mahdi Shoushtari, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran and Director of the West Asia and North Africa Department, a number of Iranian officials, the Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Shafiq Dayoub and members of the Syrian Embassy.

Sabbagh also held a meeting with the Iranian foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchii.

In a press conference following the meeting Araqchi said: We discussed bilateral relations between Iran and Syria at all levels and stressed that we will continue to stand by Syria.

He added: We condemn the Israeli attacks on Syrian lands and the US theft of the Syrian people’s wealth.

Araqchi also said: “Syria is currently facing an economic crisis, yet it hosts about 500,000 displaced people from Lebanon. We will provide all possible assistance in this regard and call on the international community to help as well”.
