On behalf of President Bashar Al-Assad, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bassam Sabbagh extended congratulations to the new Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font during the president’s inauguration ceremony held at the Chilean National Congress.
A new Chilean government of 24 ministers was also formed during the ceremony.
Sabbagh conveyed to President Boric President Al-Assad’s greetings and best wishes of success in his new task and his efforts to enhance bilateral relations between Chile and Syria for the good of the peoples of both countries.
On his part, President Boric expressed his sympathy with the Syrian people over the humanitarian suffering they have experienced because of the war during the past years.
He expressed his country’s readiness to help Syria in alleviating the impacts of this war.
Boric, the founder and head of the “Social Convergence” party won the second round of presidential elections in Chile after getting 55,87% of the votes. The elections were held on November 22nd , 2021.
During his visit to Chile, Sabbagh met a number of Syrian expatriates and talked to them about the situation in Syria. He stressed that Syria has foiled the conspiracy hatched against it thanks to the unity of the Syrians and their support for their leadership and army.
Sabbagh explained the disastrous impacts of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union on Syria and which affected the Syrian people’s livelihood.
He clarified that Syria will focus in the coming stage on eliminating the remaining terrorist hotbeds in the country, ending the foreign occupation and liberating the occupied Syrian lands and reconstructing what terrorism has destroyed. He affirmed that achieving these goals necessitates the support of all the Syrians inside the country and abroad.
The senior Syrian diplomat reiterated that the Syrian government is greatly interested in the expatriates affairs through making certain laws that serve them and enhance their role abroad.
On their part, the Syrian expatriates voiced solidarity with their motherland, stressing their confidence in the measures taken by the Syrian state to reestablish security and stability in the country. They expressed their willingness to support the Syrian government’s efforts to rehabilitate the destroyed infrastructure.
