Sabbagh calls for increasing early recovery projects, supporting the Syrian government’s efforts to return the refugees

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh has called for increasing the early recovery projects in Syria, due to their importance in the tangible and sustainable improvement of the humanitarian situation in the country. He has also called for supporting the Syrian government’s efforts to help the Syrian refugees return to their homeland.

During his meeting on Wednesday with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, on the sidelines of the Second Global Refugee Forum held in Geneva, Switzerland, Sabbagh said that it is necessary to mobilize the necessary financial resources to meet the increasing needs of the Syrians as a result of the severe shortage in funding for the humanitarian response plans.

For his part, Griffiths highly appreciated the facilitations provided by the Syrian government to the United Nations to enable it to fulfill its mandate, especially extending the permission granted to the UN to enter humanitarian aid through the Bab al-Salama and Al-Rai crossings. He stressed the keenness of the delegation of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to continue coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government to improve the humanitarian situation in the country.
