Sabbagh arrives in Tehran to participate in meetings of parliaments of Islamic and Asian countries on Palestine

Tehran, (ST) – Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh on Tuesday arrived at the head of an official parliamentary delegation in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in response to the invitation of his Iranian counterpart, Speaker of the Islamic Shura Council, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf to participate in the emergency meeting of the Palestine Committee in the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and in the first meeting of the Palestine Committee in Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

60 countries will participate in the meetings, during which they will discuss parliamentary cooperation mechanisms and the situation in the Palestinian arena, especially what is happening in Gaza.

The brutal crimes committed by the Zionist entity in Gaza and the need to intensify efforts and coordinate efforts among Islamic and Asian countries and develop a mechanism to immediately reduce the massacres committed, cease fire, and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza will also be discussed during the meeting.

Sabbagh pointed out in his statement that the continuous crimes of the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people and the people of Gaza are a blatant violation of all international and humanitarian laws in light of suspicious international silence. He stressed the importance of the two meetings that will be held in Tehran in support of our people in Palestine who are suffering from a tragic and disturbing reality.

Sabbagh stressed the need for important decisions to emerge from these two meetings to stop the ongoing Zionist crime against women, children and the sick, especially in the Gaza Strip.

The Speaker of the People’s Assembly pointed out the importance of the role of parliaments in supporting the Palestinian cause. He referred to the necessity of continuing high-level consultations and meetings between the two sides, which would strengthen bilateral relations and joint work.

Sabbagh referred to the recent two visits of the Iranian President and the Speaker of the Islamic Shura Council to Syria and their impact on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. He said: “We are in the same trench and we have common challenges in confronting terrorism.”

He stressed that the relations between the two countries are rooted and established and continue to develop under the guidance of the leadership of the two countries, who are keen to strengthen them.

Sabbagh pointed out that they fought Syria as a result of its firm positions and its failure to neglect or compromise on the nation’s issues, most notably support for the Palestinian cause.

Sabbagh condemned the terrorist acts that targeted innocent civilians in Iran. He expressed Syria’s full solidarity with the families of the martyrs and the injured.
