French newspaper Le Figaro said that the Russian company, Gazprom, notified the French energy company Engie that Gazprom would cut off gas supplies from it, starting today, Tuesday, the 30th of August 2022, due to disagreements over certain contracts.
According to the newspaper, the Russian company informed its French counterpart about the suspension of supplies due to differences between the two parties regarding contracts, noting that Gazprom’s shipments to the French energy company actually declined last July and amounted to 1.5 terawatt-hours per month.
Europe is witnessing great fears of a severe energy crisis against the backdrop of the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia, and Moscow responded with a series of measures related to gas supplies and the method of payment for these supplies in Russian rubles.
