Russian Trade Representation in Syria holds a sports marathon to celebrate National Unity Day in Russia

Damascus (ST) – The Russian Trade Representation in Syria, in cooperation with the General Sports Federation, organized a sports marathon today in the Yafour area in the Damascus countryside on the occasion of National Unity Day in Russia.

The 10-kilometer marathon was held with the participation of competitors from different age groups from Russia and Syria amidst a highly enthusiastic atmosphere that ended with the crowning of the winners.

Head of the Russian Trade Representation in Syria George Asatrian stated that the marathon is part of the various events held on the occasion of the Russian National Unity Day, which falls on the 4thof November every year.This marathon he said witnessed good participation and qualitative preparations, pointing to the importance of sports as a unifying event that connects different peoples.

Head of the Athletics Federation Suleiman Huwaila stressed that the federation assigned a refereeing team to supervise the marathon in addition to providing logistical matters from its beginning to its end, given the importance of participating in such sporting events that work to enable and enhance communication between people.

A number of competitors indicated their happiness to participate in the marathon, expressing their readiness to be present at upcoming sports events and initiatives as they contribute to highlighting the benefits of sports and expanding the base of its practitioners.
