Russian Tourist and Cultural Group Visiting the Ancient City of Palmyra

HOMS,(ST)- Russian tourist group includes a number of plastic artists, theater and cinema critics, agents of travel and tourism offices and economists who visited the historic city of Palmyra today.

During their visit, the members of the group were briefed on the archaeological monuments documenting the destruction of the most important monuments in the city as a result of the attacks of ISIS terrorist organization before its defeat by the Syrian Army.

“Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to see the ancient city of Palmyra before it was destroyed by ISIS terrorists who committed these crimes in a further evidence that they have nothing to do with humanity,” said Vladimir Rajil, an artist and the head of the group, expressing his happiness to see the people who started to return to Palmyra and revitalize tourism there.

Galina Zitseva, a theater and cinema critic, expressed her sorrow and grief over the destruction  and the crimes committed by the enemies of culture and humanity in this city which is registered on the World Heritage List, affirming that this criminal act is a disgrace, horrible and shameful for all humanity, showing  admiration for the security and safety they feel in the ancient city.

Alexei Golubev said: “I was amazed to see the ornate columns and arches and the way of building this vast city by the artist of Palmyra.” He pointed to the need to reconstruct what has been ruined by the enemies of civilization who sought to obliterate  human history, appealing to international organizations specialized in archaeological restoration to contribute in raising these monuments as they were before to attract lovers of art and culture from all over the world.
