MOSCOW, (ST) _ Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday held an emergency meeting for permanent members at the Russian Security Council, said Presidential advisor Dmitri Pskov.
“The participants in the meeting discussed issues on social and economic development in the country, and exchanged views on certain international issues with great emphasis on settling the situation in Syria and conditions in the Middle East in general, including the recent meeting between Putin and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. ” Pskov told reporters.
On the other hand Russian President special representative for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed with the Syrian ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad developments in Syria in the light of recent contacts made by the Russian side with the representatives of the Syrian opposition and Western partners quick halting of violence in Syria and launching a board national dialogue, according to Geneva statement issued in Geneva of June 2012.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that talks also dealt with developing Russian-Syrian bilateral relations, including bilateral parliamentary contacts.
