Russian Scientists Adjust Innovative Satellite Control System

Russian scientists have started the adjustment of the innovative guidance, navigation and control (GNC) system on the Aist-2D satellite that was launched from the Vostochny space center in April, the press service of the Samara University said on Tuesday.

The on-board motion control system installed on the Aist-2D satellite is supplemented by the innovative GNC system based on micro-acceleration compensation hardware that was designed at the Institute of Electronics and Instrument Engineering of Russia’s Samara State Aerospace University.

“The researchers from the Samara National Research University named after academician S.P. Korolev have started adjustment of the innovative GNC system for small satellites implementing an advanced micro-acceleration compensation system on the Aist-2D satellite,” the university press service said in a statement.

The new GNC system aims to control vehicle orientation and to compensate on-board rotating micro-accelerations in the low frequency spectrum, according to the Samara University. The system allows determining precise location of the satellite based on the GPS data and its orientation to the Sun as well as the geomagnetic field.

The Aist-2D is an experimental remote-sensing satellite designed by the Russian research center Progress and the Samara University for research purposes.
