Russian Red Cross sends a team to Syria to provide humanitarian and medical assistance to quake-affected people
Chairman of the Russian Red Cross Pavel Savchuk announced on Saturday that the organization has sent a team to Syria to provide humanitarian and medical assistance to citizens affected by the earthquake that hit the country last February.
In a statement in Moscow, Savchuk said the team consists of 13 members, including physicians, psychologists, emergency response experts and humanitarian aid specialists. The team will work in at least 10 quake-affected areas, he added.
“Special interest will be accorded to children of different ages,” Savchuk said, clarifying that recreational activities will be organized, medical assistance will be provided and individual psychiatric consultations will be conducted.
He pointed out that the Russian Red Cross sent the first team to Syria last March to provide assistance to quake-affected people in the vicinity of Lattakia province.
