Russian politicians: Parliamentary elections in Syria a new victory for the Syrian state and people

MOSCOW, (ST)- Head of the Executive Committee of the Russian Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov has stressed that the parliamentary elections held recently in Syria indicate a new victory for the Syrian state and people.

In a statement to SANA correspondent in Moscow, Zyuganov said that the elections of the Syrian People’s Assembly have been a positive process that created an opportunity for a meeting between different parties and citizens to discuss a variety of electoral programs.

He stressed that the Syrian-Russian relations are deeply-rooted and they will continue to be strong despite all American attempts to undermine them.

On his part, the Moscow City Duma member Oleg Sherimitev said that the Syrian parliamentary elections were held in consistence with constitutional and popular obligations and they foiled all the schemes that aim at subjugating Syria and its people.

These elections also affirmed the continuity of the work of the Syrian state institutions, he added.
