Russian politicians and clerics condemn the American and Israeli policies that support terrorism in Syria
Moscow, (ST) – A number of politicians and clerics in Russia condemned the American and Israeli policy of supporting extremist terrorist organizations in Syria. They reiterated their rejection of the repeated attacks on Syria’s sovereignty.
In a statement to SANA in Moscow, the head of the Religious Association of Russian Muslims, a member of the Russian Social Council, Sheikh Albert Karaganov said that, “we condemn all aggressive actions against Syria that threaten the security of the entire region.”
Sheikh Karaganov stressed that US policy at the international level raises tensions and wars. He said that the world is fully aware today that the conflict in Ukraine is not a war between the two countries Russia and Ukraine, but rather between Russia and NATO led by the United States.
In a similar statement, the Executive Secretary of the Council of Religions in Russia, Secretary of the Department of International Church Relations in the Moscow Patriarchate, Reverend Dmitry Safonov saidthat, “Syria is a sacred land for us, and the Israeli attacks on it target the Syrian people and deserve the utmost condemnation.”
Safonov added that the tragedy that the Arab countries have been suffering from for nearly eighty years raises great concern to us because it led to the displacement of Arabs from Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan. He also said that, the Golan is Syrian land that must be returned to its mother country, Syria.
In turn, Deputy Director of the Institute of National and Religious Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences and President of the Russian Society for the Protection of Religious Freedom, Sergey Melnikov stressed that, the situation in the world is similar to what it was on the eve of World War II, when the Western world encouraged the expansionist ambitions of Nazi Germany. He said that Russia stands today at the forefront of the struggle. against neo-Nazis.
Melnikov denounced the destructive and destabilizing role played by the United States in Syria by supporting extremist terrorist organizations, in particular the terrorist organization (ISIS).
For his part, Alexander Brod, a member of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights said that, “the United States is still playing the role of the world’s hegemon and is trying to dictate its will and organize color revolutions and coups in various parts of the world.” He added that, “the world has witnessed during the past thirty years many examples about undermining anti-American governments and imposing Western and anti-people regimes“.
Brod pointed out that the Americans showed the reality of their destructive intentions by supporting terrorism in Syria. He indicated that the Americans are trying today to implement their destructive plans in Ukraine and pumping large quantities of weapons to support neo-Nazi groups there.
