Russian MPs reiterate Syria’s right to defend itself against terrorists and aggressors

MOSCOW, (ST)- A number of Russian Parliamentarians have affirmed that the political process in Syria won’t succeed without the complete elimination of terrorism.

In a  statement to SANA correspondent in Moscow on Monday, Deputy Chairman of the Russian state Duma Pyotr Tolstoy reiterated Syria’s right to defend itself against terrorists and against all who try to attack its territories.

He stressed the need to continue the war on international terrorism in the region, particularly in the light of the presence of an international coalition led by the United States which claims that it is fighting terrorism while in fact it is doing nothing to stop any terrorist crimes in the region.

On his part, Chairman of the International Affairs Committee at the state Duma Leonid Slutsky said that the situation in Syria’s Idleb is still dangerous, noting the difference in the stances of the countries which are supposed to sponsor the de-escalation agreement there.

The First Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee at the State Duma Dmitry Novikov hailed the achievements realized in Syria in the fight against terrorist organizations in cooperation with Russia, stressing that these achievements have prepared the ground for the return of normal life.
