Russian-Iraqi talks on the situation in Syria and Iraq

Russian President’s Special envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed with an Iraqi delegation headed by National Security Advisor Faleh Fayyad in Moscow a number of regional issues, especially the situation in Syria and Iraq and the ongoing war against terrorism in both countries.

“The two sides discussed ways of achieving stability and security in the Middle East through a diplomatic and political settlement to crises on the basis of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of States without any foreign interference,” Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev discussed with Fayyad in Moscow many important issues including the situation in Syria and ways of developing technical and military cooperation between the two sides.
