Russian historian: Syria’s return to the Arab League a victory for the Syrian people, a defeat for the West
Moscow – The Russian historian Sergey Medvedev has stressed that Syria’s return to the Arab League constitutes a victory for the steadfast Syrian people and for Syria’s friends, particularly Russia which has always supported the Syrian people during the difficult times.
In a statement to SANA correspondent in Moscow on Saturday, Medvedev said “Syria’s return means the defeat of the United States which alongside its western allies lost the bet against Syria and failed to subjugate the Syrian people”.
“Syria is a founder of the Arab League and it has always been the first to stand in defense of freedom and independence and in the confrontation of terrorism, western pressure and forces of darkness,” he pointed out.
For his part, Professor Andre Baklanov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Diplomats Association, expressed his country’s support for the Arab consensus on Syria’s return to the Arab League.
He said that Syria’s decision to fight international terrorism proved its rightness, affirming that Syria was right to defend itself and fight terrorism supported by the collective West under various false slogans.
Russia, despite its most difficult circumstances, has adopted a supportive stance towards the Syrian people and leadership, Baklanov said, pointing out that the Syrian leadership has been right in its decision to fight terrorism unlike other countries.
