Russian Foreign Ministry: We will respond to NATO strengthening its military presence in the Arctic

Ambassador for Special Tasks at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Nikolai Korshunov, announced that his country will respond to NATO’s strengthening of its military presence in the Arctic with a set of measures.

“The increasing military-political tension in the Arctic is the result of the unconstructive line of the United States and its allies, especially against the backdrop of the Russian operation in Ukraine,”

Novosti news agency quoted Korshunov as saying.

Korshunov pointed out that “strengthening NATO’s military capabilities in this region, Finland’s joining the alliance and Sweden’s inclusion on the accession list indicates the expansion of NATO’s power scenarios in the northern lines at the expense of the security of other countries.”

Korchunov warned that Moscow would respond to these challenges and threats “with a set of necessary measures, including preventive measures within the framework of the tasks set by its leadership within the concept of foreign policy and the strategy for the development of the Russian Arctic region.”
