Russian Foreign Ministry: The terrorists in Idlib have rearmed and are carrying out attacks against the Syrian army
Moscow,(ST)- The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that terrorist organizations in the de-escalation zone in Idlib have rearmed and launched counter-attacks against the Syrian Arab Army, stressing the need to eliminate and hold them accountable.
The ministry said in a statement today quoted by the Russia Today: “Large armed groups belonging to various terrorist organizations, are gathering in Idleb, including “Haya’at Tahrir al-Sham and Hurras ad-Din”, which continue to use ideological principles and terrorist methods of al-Qaeda,” the statement said, adding that these two terrorist organizations refused to recognize the recent cessation of hostilities agreement in Idleb.
The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, announced at the end of his talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Moscow on the fifth of this month, that an agreement was reached to stop the hostilities in Idlib at the current situation, noting that the agreement confirms commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Syria and the continued fight against terrorism in it.
The statement pointed out that among the terrorists stationed in this governorate, there are many ISIS terrorists who came from other regions in Syria, explaining that these terrorists “benefited from the period of calm, rearmed themselves thanks to support from abroad and now have launched counter-offensive operations against Syrian Army sites. “
The statement stressed the necessity of holding these terrorists accountable for the crimes they committed, noting that there are only two possible options for either eliminating them or holding them criminally accountable according to the law, stating that “achieving accountability is precisely what underpins our diplomatic efforts in our contacts with external colleagues.”
The terrorist groups backed by the Turkish regime deployed in the southern countryside of Idlib continue their criminal activities on the international road, Aleppo – Lattakia, and yesterday they blocked it and prevented any attempt to open it to traffic.
