Russian Foreign Ministry: Syrians Alone Decide Their Future

MOSCOW, (ST) – The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Russian position had not changed about the crisis in Syria and the Syrians are the only ones who decide to subsequent development of their country, expressing Russia’s readiness to contribute to the start of a dialogue between the government and the opposition in Syria.

The spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Ukashevic,  Said in a statement published on the ministry’s website: ” All players outside have to redouble efforts to ensure the right conditions to start a national dialogue in Syria without any preconditions and in a perfect harmony with the Geneva statement.”

In response to comments of the spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department about the intention for  using the tripartite meeting on Syria to be held in Geneva tomorrow between representatives of Russia and the United States and the Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria Lakhdar Al Ibrahimi as an additional mechanism to pressure Syria and its leadership, Ukashevic  pointed out that the Russian position has not changed and Moscow is concerned to materialize talks about the importance of the Geneva to a mechanism to contribute to stop the violence in Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry published in a special commentary yesterday the Russian perception of the initial entrance of the objectives of the next round of tripartite consultations in Geneva , repeating the speech  that “Russia’s position remains unchanged.” Ukashevic pointed out.
