Russian Foreign Ministry: Syria’s oil fields should be under the control of the Syrian state

Moscow, (ST) – The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated that the oil fields in Syria should be under the control of the Syrian state.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said in a press statement that “Oil is a national wealth of the entire Syrian people and we are convinced that this people should be free to use their national wealth, including oil”.

He explained that Russia does not intend to do joint work with the United States on its plans on oil fields.

Washington is trying to complete its colonial role in Syria and the region, both politically and militarily, through its forces which are stealing the Syrian oil, and this is what had been confirmed by the Russian Defense Ministry recently as it published photos of oil tanks smuggling oil from Syria under the guard of the US military.

In another context, Vershinin announced that he is currently coordinating to agree on the date of the next round of Astana talks on the crisis in Syria in the city of Nur Sultan, noting that the meeting will be held soon.

13 rounds of Astana talks have been held on the settlement of the crisis in Syria, the latest of which was last August, and all of them underlined the necessity of preserving Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and of eliminating terrorism in the country.

On the other hand, Russian journalists were denied a British visa to attend the conference about freedom of press.
