MOSCOW -“The Russian foreign Ministry on Wednesday expressed worry over reports of Turkey’s campaign in northern Syria after the Turkish tanks’ incursion into Jarablus in the Syrian territories.
“Moscow is deeply concerned about what is happening in the Syrian-Turkish border area,” the ministry said, adding that further degradation in the conflict zone and the prospect of Kurdish-Arab conflict raises alarm, according to Sputnik.
“We are convinced that the Syrian crisis can be resolved only on the solid basis of international law, through broad intra-Syrian dialogue with the participation of all Syrians, including the Kurds, and on the basis of the June 30, 2012, Geneva Communique, Resolution 2254 and other UN Security Council resolutions adopted on the initiative of the International Syria Support Group,” the ministry stressed.
Cooperation with Damascus needed to combat terror in Syria
Earlier today, a Russian Foreign Ministry source said that counterterrorism actions in the area of the Syrian-Turkish border are important as never before, but cooperation with Damascus is needed for their effectiveness.
The Turkish army’s tanks and armored vehicles intruded into the Syrian territories reaching the city of Jabralus accompanied by terrorist groups under a cover ensured by the US-led coalition air force. The Turkish operation, called “Euphrates Shield” mission, aims at expelling “Daesh” from the city and replacing it with other terrorist organizations backed by Washington and Ankara.
