Russian Foreign Ministry: Domestic Reconciliation in Syria Proceeds successfully

MOSCOW, (ST)_ The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the idea of reaching a settlement to the crisis in Syria, according to the principle “from the smallest to the largest, through the so-called “Local freezing ” continues to be the focal interest of activities of the UN Secretary General Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura.

In a statement yesterday,  the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow strongly supports these initiatives which mainly concentrate on resolving the situation in Aleppo city, which is the largest city in northern Syria, adding that these efforts will help to “put an end to violence,alleviate the suffering of thousands of civilians and people to return normal life. “

“As for the 10-day  truce announced recently in al-Waer district in Homs, both the Syrian authorities and several leaders of illegal armed groups hoped that ceasefire will be conducive to negotiate terms of sustainable reconciliation in the area,” the Russian Foreign Ministry statement said, adding, ” that the Syrian government hopes that ” local militants “will drop their arms and return to civilian life while foreign fighters will have the opportunity to leave the area, where UN agencies humanitarian food aids started to be employed.

“The Syrian authorities were able to take out more than two thousand civilians from the combat zones and find a solution for more 450 members of illegal armed groups who decided to turn themselves and their weapons and regularize their status, “the statement read.

The Russian Foreign Ministry statement concluded that the accumulated experience resulting from reconciliations led by the Syrian government are “very useful” and methods used to resolve difficult situations, serving public interest to end violence can be also applied in Aleppo.
