Moscow (ST): The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Bulgarian ambassador to Moscow, Atanas Christine, and informed him of the decision to expel 14 diplomatic staff from its territory.
The RIA Novosti news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today: “The Bulgarian ambassador, Atanas Kristin, was invited to the headquarters of the Russian Foreign Ministry, where he was handed a note declaring 14 employees of the diplomatic mission and consular offices of Bulgaria in Russia persona non grata,”.
The statement indicated that this measure comes in response to the Bulgarian side’s decision to declare 70 employees of the Russian embassy in Bulgaria persona non grata, impose quotas on the number of Russian employees at the Russian embassy in Bulgaria, and temporarily close the Russian consulate in the Bulgarian city of Rusa.
