Russian experts plan to take part in establishing Palmyra Museum

The Director of the State Hermitage Museum in the Russian city of ST. Petersburg, Mikhail Piotrovsky, announced that Russian experts plan to take part in the establishment of Palmyra Museum as a next step after the approval of the project to restore the Arch of Triumph which was blown up by terrorists in 2015.

Piotrovsky said in a press statement today:” We plan to cooperate with the Syrian side and other Arab countries to develop a project to revive Palmyra, as a record to the history of the ancient arts.  The Hermitage Museum and the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Science will contribute to the project for the Russian side”.

Piotrovsky referred to the efforts exerted to save the Palmyra Museum, pointing to the partial restoration of some of its contents by Russian experts.
