LATTAKIA, Jun.6, (ST)- Today, a Russian delegation visited the archaeological site of Ugarit Kingdom in Wadi Qandil to inspect the work of Russian excavation mission there.
The visit comes within the framework of the cooperation between Lattakia and the Russian province of Nizhny Novgorod.
Deputy Governor of Nizhny Province, Peter Vitalyevich Banikov, stressed in a press statement the necessity of enhancing relations between Nizhny Novgorod province and Lattakia in all fields, including the cultural one.
“The archaeological site is important, and it is one of the historical landmarks. It is likely the oldest place for antiquities in the history of mankind and the history of Syria,” Banikov declared, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
He asserted that Russia is ready to offer assistance and support to preserve the history of Syria, and to reconstruct this historical site.
For his part, Vice-Rector for Languages at Nizhny Novgorod University , Anna Mikhalina, expressed happiness over mutual cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism.
