MOSCOW, (ST) – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the United States hinders the restoration of safe and normal life in Syria by imposing sanctions and preventing humanitarian aid from reaching where it is needed and expressing concern for the lives of civilians only when terrorists are defeated.
In a statement, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said in response to the statements of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about Washington’s deep concern about the situation in the Idlib countryside that“all US State Department statements about Syria and its alleged concern about the lives and suffering of civilians coincide with the defeat of terrorists and the liberation of civilians after a long wait “.
Konashenkov pointed out that “throughout the period of Russia’s confrontation in the fight against international terrorism in Syria there was not a single public statement issued by the US State Department to support this fight against terrorism,” noting that “Washington hinders the restoration of normal life in Syria through sanctions and the prevention of humanitarian aid.”
Russia is participating in the war on terrorism alongside the Syrian Arab Army since September 2015, at the request of the Syrian Arab Republic. During this period, terrorist organizations incurred heavy losses.
