Russian Defense Minister Inspects Hmeimim Airbase in Lattakia

LATTAKIA, (ST)-Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, who is on a work visit to Syria upon request of President Vladimir Putin, inspected on Saturday the Hmeimim Airbase in Lattakia.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry’s Spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov, Shoigu “inspected the Hmeimim airbase in Lattakia province and the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system deployed there. He also made sure that combat units shifts are well-organized at the aerial defense forces command center.”

 Konashenkov added that “the defense minister ordered the commanders of the airbase to boost comprehensive support to the locals, especially in areas blocked by terrorists.”
