Russian Commissioner for Human Rights: Closing the European Union’s borders to Russians is a blatant violation of freedom of movement
Moscow (ST): Russia’s High Commissioner for Human Rights, Tatiana Moskalkova, declared that closing the European Union’s borders to Russian citizens would be a flagrant violation of the principle of freedom of movement.
TASS news agency quoted Moskalkova as saying today in a statement posted on the social networking site Telegram: “In recent days, calls have been made in the West to prevent Russian citizens from entering the territory of the member states of the European Union and that such manifestations of nationalism and discrimination flagrantly violate the fundamental principle of freedom of movement”.
The Commissioner pointed to the lack of unity in the European family on this issue, adding: There are voices in the European Parliament that give hope that international law and human rights are not empty talk for European authorities.
