Russian and Egyptian foreign ministers stress the importance of cooperation to end the crisis in Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatti stressed the importance of continuous cooperation and coordination between Russia and Arab countries to end the crisis in Syria, in a way that preserves its unity and sovereignty and enables it to combat terrorism.

During a joint press conference with Abdelatti in Moscow on Monday, Lavrov said “we welcomed the position of our Egyptian friends on developing political dialogue with Syria, as Cairo’s constructive position contributed greatly to the decision to resume Syria’s membership in the Arab League, and we hope to continue restoring Syria’s normal relations with its Arab environment because this will not only serve in addressing the repercussions of the long crisis there, but will also provide great opportunities to consolidate security and stability in the entire Middle East.”

For his part, Abdelatti said “we agreed on the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination between our two countries and between Russia and Arab countries, especially in the light of Moscow’s important role in this file and on working to end the crisis that has been ongoing in Syria for years in a way that preserves its unity and sovereignty, and enables the Syrian state institutions to work as to combat terrorism, through implementing the Security Council Resolution No. 2254.”

He added that he informed Lavrov of the latest developments in this file, and listened to his explanation about the latest Russian moves in this regard.
