Russian-American Agreement Provides for Establishing Joint Coordination Center to Fight “Deash”, “Jabhat al-Nusra”: Sources
DAMASCUS, (ST)- One of the main goals of the US-Russian agreement on Syria is to reach political solution to the crisis in Syria, well-informed sources told the official News Agency SANA.
According to the sources, the agreement provided for a truce to allow access for humanitarian aid into the city of Aleppo through the Castello road.
The sources said that the Syrian government was informed about the agreement and it agreed to it, pointing out that fighting will be halted in Aleppo for humanitarian reasons.
They talked about a US request to the “armed groups” to dissociate themselves from Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization and about the establishment of a Russian-US coordination center to target “Deash” and “Jabhat al-Nusra” by airstrikes.
The sources said the agreement affirmed that changing the name of “Jabhat al-Nusra” doesn’t change the fact that it is a terrorist organization, noting that Russian has accused some “opposition parties” of non cooperation.
The US and Russian top diplomats John Kerry and Sergey Lavrov announced late Friday that they reached a new agreement on Syria following 14-hour talks in Geneva. The agreement provided for a truce for 48 hours starting by the sundown of September 12. It also provided for separating between the terrorists and the so-called “opposition”, for specifying the areas in which Russian and American warplanes will target terrorists, for establishing a joint center to coordinate airstrikes and for resuming the political process to solve the crisis in Syria.
