Russia will not recognize any Israeli attempts to impose control over the occupied Syrian Golan, says Polyansky

New York, (ST) – Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky reiterated Russia’s position in rejecting any Israeli efforts to seize the occupied Syrian Golan. He stressed that the Golan is Syrian territory.

In a speech during a meeting of the UN Security Council yesterday, Polyansky said that the Israeli occupation government plans by 2026 to double the number of settlers in the occupied Syrian Golan and the occupied West Bank. He added that, “the Russian Federation does not recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Syrian Golan.”

It is noteworthy that the United Nations stresses in its resolutions the necessity of the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation entity from the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4, 1967, the most recent of which was the two resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on the ninth of last January.

Polyansky pointed out that the repeated Israeli aggression on Syrian territories, the latest of which was the targeting of Damascus International Airport, as well as the entity’s crimes and violations in the occupied Palestinian territories are carried out with the approval of the United States. He also added that, “these illegal unilateral measures are taken with the silent approval of Washington.”

In this regard, he pointed out that the occupation entity agreed last year to establish more than 12,000 new settlement units, and destroyed more than 1,000 Palestinian homes, in addition to escalating its violations in the occupied West Bank and Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

“The international community’s disregard for the systematic violation of Palestinian rights is a clear example of the double standards practiced by Western countries towards human rights,” Polyansky said.
