Russia welcomes Syria’s decision on the use of Bab Al-Hawa crossing point for aid

MOSCOW, Jul.18, (ST)- Today, Russia affirmed its support for Syria’s decision on authorizing the UN and its specialized agencies to use Bab Al-Hawa crossing point for extra six months, in full cooperation and coordination with Syria, for delivering the aid to the needy residents in the northwest of the country, as of July 13th.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the decision involved the need for the UN agencies and staff not to communicate with the terrorist organizations which capture  Idlib, as well as allowing the International Committee Of The Red Cross (ICRC) and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), whose offices were looted and their cadres were enforced to leave their work, to supervise facilitating the operations and distributing the aid in the terrorists-held areas.

The ministry indicated that the US and its allies hindered the approval of the Russian draft resolution submitted to the Security Council under false pretexts represented by the insufficient time, the issue that confirms that they don’t care about the humanitarian aid for the needy Syrian civilians, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Last Thursday, Syria gave the UN and its agencies a permission to use Bab Al-Hawa crossing point to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians in need in northwestern Syria, in full cooperation and coordination with it for six months, after the Security Council failed during its session last Tuesday to extend the Resolution No. 2672. Russia also vetoed a Western draft resolution that violates Syrian sovereignty under the pretext of cross-border aid delivery.
