Russia warns Finland not to turn its territory into a corridor for NATO nuclear weapons

Russia has warned Finland that it will face military and political countermeasures if it poses a nuclear threat to Russia.

Commenting on the statements of the Finnish authorities that they may allow the passage of NATO nuclear weapons through the country, director of the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vladimir Yermakov told TASS: “If this is the choice of the Finnish authorities, they should be prepared for its consequences, and regardless of whether the Finnish authorities know what they are doing or not. They will have to fully counter Russian military and technical countermeasures.

He noted that Helsinki is currently discussing the possibility of joining the practical activities of NATO countries to create threats to Russia using nuclear weapons.

Finland joined NATO on April 4, 2023, while Finland’s Prime Minister Petri Orbo stated earlier that he might allow nuclear weapons to cross through his country.
