Russia to exercise responsible foreign policy amid global transitional period – Lavrov

The world is experiencing an unprecedented transitional period, accompanied by the re-carving of the geopolitical landscape and the shaping of a new correlation of forces.

Given the situation, Russia seeks to pursue a responsible foreign policy, and make international collective moves in the interests of strengthening security and stability.

This came in a statement by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during his address to a news briefing in Moscow, according to the Voice of Russia correspondent.

Lavrov pointed out that Moscow favors a settlement of any conflicts through reasonable compromise, via the development of a fully-fledged dialogue and cooperation with all nations.

Russia, Japan should accept legal reality to further their relations, Russian FM Lavrov said during press conference in Moscow.

Russia doesn’t see anything useful in the Japanese authorities’ unilateral approaches to territorial issues, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“It doesn’t help matters when we hear Japanese politicians making excessively emotional statements on their unilateral demands to us. We don’t believe that such statements are very useful from the point of view of creating the necessary atmosphere for comprehensive development of Russian-Japanese relations,” Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.

Russia continues reinforcing its position as one of geopolitical centers of power, its foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said .

He added that a deeper integration within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) stood high atop the list of Russia’s priority policies.

There is no need to stress the importance of the agreement on a free trade zone within the CIS. It is a very important step. We are also going ahead with other integration formats, such as the Customs Union, the single economic zone and the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC).

The Eurasian Economic Committee went operational in February 2012. It has already been here for a while. The Eurasian Economic Community will be launched on February 1, 2015.

The Russian fleet’s presence in the Mediterranean is a stabilizing factor for the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“We are not interested in even more destabilization in the Mediterranean region, and our fleet’s presence there is certainly a factor stabilizing the situation,” Lavrov said .
