Russia suggests increasing UNRWA’s budget in the light of the humanitarian suffering in occupied Palestinian territories

New York (ST) – The Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Maria Zabolotskaya proposed increasing the budget of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA), in the light of the current conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Zabolotskaya called for increasing the share of the regular budget in UNRWA expenses and urged all countries to support this initiative, noting that her country has always made contributions to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and is ready to do so now.

It is noteworthy that the Director of the New York Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Craig Mokheiber previously announced his resignation from his position in protest against the UN bodies’ handling of the situation in Gaza Strip, stressing the need for the organization to assume its responsibilities.

The Strip is suffering from the scourge of the ongoing Israeli aggression for the 25th day in a row, which has increased human suffering.
