Russia Successfully Tests Modernized Anti-Ballistic Missile System

Russia has successfully test-launched a new upgraded anti-ballistic missile system days after it tested an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Press T.V reported.

 “The new modernized anti-ballistic missile system has successfully fulfilled the task and struck a conventional target at the designated time,” Russian media quoted Deputy Commander of the Air and Missile Defense of the Aerospace Forces Maj. Gen. Andrey Prikhodko as saying on Monday.

The test took place in Kazakhstan at the Sary Shagan testing range.

 The new system “is designed to protect Moscow against air and space attacks, as well as to carry out tasks in the interests of missile attack warning systems and control of outer space,” according to the official newspaper of the Russian Defense Ministry, Krasnaya Zvezda.

The ministry said the tested missile is already in service and used to protect the city of Moscow from potential attacks from air.

On Friday, Russia released video footage of a test-launch of its new intercontinental ballistic missile, the Sarmat. The missile, nicknamed ‘Satan 2,’ was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia.

Moscow says Sarmat has virtually no range limit, capable of delivering massive payloads on any target in any location across the globe.

In February, Russia put to test a new interceptor missile of for its A-135 Anti-Ballistic Missile system at a testing range in in Kazakhstan.

Deputy Commander of the Aerospace Forces’ air and missile defense task force, Colonel Andrei Prikhodko, said that the technical characteristics of the new interceptor missile by far exceed those of its present-day counterparts.
