Russia’s Role in Region Serves Palestinian Cause and Peace in Syria, Says Shaaban

Presidential Political and Media Advisor Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban has said the return of Russia’s role in the region is in favor of the Palestinian cause and peace in Syria and in all Arab countries as well.

She told journalists following a lecture held Wednesday at al-Assad Library in Damascus on the occasion of Quds Day : “ Russia, throughout history, has dealt with other countries respectfully unlike the United States and western countries. Therefore, we are optimistic with the increasing role of Russia and the BRICS nations that will lead to a world with more justice and peace.”

 “The Russian and Chinese role serves region’s peoples and this has been proved since 2011 when they used veto in the United Nations Security Council against West’s attempts to carry out military action against the Syrian people,” Dr. Shabban added, referring to that fact that the Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first one to call for forming a real coalition against terrorism.

She asserted that the previous US Administration remained evasive about fighting terrorism and later on it became clear that the US-led coalition against terrorism was supporting terrorists by money and weapons.

On his part, Assistant Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command [PELP-GC] Dr. Talal Naji talked about the Palestinian-Russian relations and  Russia’s stances towards the Palestinian cause especially in the era of President Putin.

He said that Moscow has a lot of international papers that enable it to play a strategic and essential role in addressing hot files in the region, including the Palestinian file.

“Four months ago, Russia expressed its readiness to exert every possible effort to resume negotiations between Palestinians and Israel in order to reach a final settlement to the Palestinian cause.. Russia has become a key part of world balance center, ” Dr. Naji stressed, indicating that Syria is the axis of resistance and it stands by Palestinian people because it believes that Palestine is part of the Levant.

“The Syrians and the Palestinians are one people and they have the same cause and struggle,” Chairman of the Board of the Directors of al-Quds International Institute Bassel al-Jad’an said, affirming that the systematic aggression being launched on Syria comes in an implementation of the colonial Zionist will that aims to destroy Syria and to have hegemony over the region.

“Syria will triumph thanks to the determination of its people and army. In addition, Palestine will achieve victory over its enemy,” he concluded.

The activity of Quds Day was attended by Head of the Syrian Arab Popular Committee for Supporting the Palestinian People and Resisting the Zionist Plot, members of the Trustees Council  of al-Quds International Foundation, representatives of Palestinian factions in Damascus, several ambassadors and intellectuals.
