Russia’s Key Role in Syria Reconstruction Stressed

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Imad Khamis and the visiting Russian government and economic delegation led by Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin discussed economic cooperation and Russia’s key role in the reconstruction era in Syria.

“Syria is pressing ahead with fighting terrorism until the entire Syrian territory is cleaned of terrorists and with launching production and creating suitable environment to attract investments which would refresh the national economy,” said the premier, adding that “Syria is advancing steadily towards the last chapter of the terrorist war thanks to the victories of the hero Syrian army and its allies and supporting forces on terrorists.”

 Khamis stressed the Syrian government’s keenness on enhancing trade exchange between the two countries and on focusing on implementing the projects agreed on by the Syrian-Russian joint government Committee for trade, economic and technical cooperation.  He hailed Russia’s firm support for the Syrian people in defense of their sovereignty and cultural identity.

On his part, Rogozin commended the efforts being exerted by the Syrian government to overcome the challenges created by the terrorist war on Syria and hailed its keenness on rebuilding what terrorism has destroyed in different economic, services and production fields.

Rogozin affirmed his country’s willingness to consolidate economic cooperation with Syria through regularly holding talks dealing with ways of benefiting from the investment opportunities and the facilitations provided by the Syrian government.

In a statement to reporters following the meeting, Rogozin said the Syrian government has invited the Russian companies to effectively take part in the country’s reconstruction. He added that focus is being made on enhancing cooperation in the economic, social and cultural fields as well as on rehabilitating the infrastructure, pointing out that his country is keen on regularly supplying the Russian market with the Syrian agricultural products and on reactivating the exportation of Russian products to Syria.
