Islamabad – A senior Pakistani analyst believes that recent Russian military operation in Syria against Daesh would have a very positive impact on the situation of the Arab state.
In an interview with IRNA, Lieutenant General (retd) TalatMasood, however, said that the operation could have been even more effective if the US and other western and regional states would coordinate with Russia.
He noted that there is much tension between US, western world and Russia that they are unable to cooperate against a common enemy in a more effective manner.
The analyst said that the western powers accuseRussia that it could use the anti-Daesh operations in Syria as an opportunity to target those who are not terrorists.
“We need to make sure that Syria again becomes peaceful and the world powers who are really interfering in Syria should stop their activities and work for the common good and that can only happen if the US, western and regional powers cooperate with Russia to fight a common enemy” he said.
To a question that why Pakistan government does not take any clear position on Russia military operation against Daesh in Syria, he said that Pakistan has not issued any statement because it does not want to get involved in any controversy and this is correct diplomatically.
Pakistan is involved in fighting terrorism inside the country and has to focus all its attention on its own internal issues, the retired army general said.
