DAMASCUS- Moscow will continue to provide Syria with all means to enhance the defensive capabilities of the Syrian Arab Army, Russia’ Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Kinshuk has stressed.
In a statement to the Syrian News Agency SANA and its website, Kinshuk said Syria and Russia are allies standing in the same trench against a common enemy represented in international terrorism. He reiterated that his country is exerting all possible efforts to prevent regional powers from launching military action against Syria.
“Russia is also trying to create suitable environment to contribute to solving the crisis in Syria through political means, he asserted, pointing out that “Moscow rules out direct military action, because it believes that there is no benefit from interference in countries’ internal affairs.”
The Russian diplomat reiterated that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria and that the only possible solution should be the political settlement decided by the Syrians themselves through national dialogue.
Regarding the Moscow2 Consultative Meeting which started yesterday, Kinshuk said “Russia is trying to ensure suitable environment aiming to reach a sort of agreement that is acceptable by all concerned Syrian parties and it is keen on helping the Syrians attain national reconciliation.”
The meeting is to discuss several “clear and right” items and it will focus on ways to coordinate national forces’ efforts to fight terrorism and launch a political process that involves all political forces inside Syria and abroad, he clarified.
According to the Russian ambassador, the meeting will also discuss improving the humanitarian situation, particularly in “isolated areas” which have turned into “battlefields”.
He stressed that participants in the meeting should take tangible procedures to facilitate things and tackle humanitarian problems. “This will be a core issue that helps the parties reach agreements on other topics”, he said.
Kinshuk stressed that “there is no other way except to fight foreign terrorists and eliminate them by force,” pointing out that this is an essential duty of all countries of the world.
The Russian ambassador criticized the US plan to train the armed opposition, describing it as a “failed project” that hinders political solution efforts, but, he said, “Moscow concentrates on the positive points not on the negative ones in its dealing with Washington and western countries”.
Kinshuk pointed out that in wars like the one being waged on Syria, the moral factor is very important, because all who struggle to defend their homeland, people, dignity and sovereignty will achieve victory in the end.
