Russia proposes Olympic Truce in February

The Russian delegation to the UN General Assembly is to table a resolution to call a global truce for duration, in the week ahead of and in the week after the 22nd Winter Olympics, to be held in Sochi on the Russian coast of the Black Sea in the coming February.

Russian UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin told reporters in New York Tuesday that Russia wants to resurrect a noble custom that existed in the time of Ancient Greece,according to Voice of Russia, RIA.

Unfortunately, resolutions of the UN General Assembly are not legally binding.
