Russia: Preserving the nuclear agreement with Iran is still in effect

Russia stressed that Resolution 2231 on Iran is still in effect with all its provisions, and that the United States should not speak on behalf of the UN Security Council.

Sputnik quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement after Washington announced the resumption of UN sanctions on Iran that “the United States continues to mislead the international community by speculating that the UN Security Council will take measures to reactivate its decisions on sanctions against Iran, which were canceled after signing the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan in 2015 ”.

“The truth is that the UN Security Council has not taken any action that would restore previous sanctions on Iran, and all that Washington is doing is just a theatrical performance to push the Security Council’s policy into being  subordinate to its policy of exerting maximum pressure on Iran and transforming that decision-making this body into a tool in its hands,”, the Ministry added.

In its statement, the Foreign Ministry called on the United States to “be courageous enough to face the truth and stop speaking on behalf of the UN Security Council,” adding that Resolution 2231 is still in effect with all its provisions, and that it should be implemented according to the situation agreed upon at the beginning.
