Russia: OPCW & the West fear from discussing Investigation and Identification Team’s mission in Syria

Moscow (ST): The Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed that Western countries and the Organization for the Prohibition of chemical Weapons (OPCW) fear from discussing the activity, goals and missions of the so-called “Investigation and Identification Team” whose hostile conclusions, were made in a pre-meditated way.

Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said in a press conference through video that a session for the UN Security Council was scheduled to be held on May 12th through Video Conference about Syria with the participation of the Director General of the Technical Secretariat of the (OPCW), and the western counties had the intention to press ahead with imposing their fake conclusions included in the first report of the Investigation team formed by OPCW.

She added that Russia wants to have accurate explanations from the OPCW secretariat about all the suspicious conditions of collecting and storing the samples until the minute of submitting them to the Investigation Team related to the use of chemical weapon in Syria.

Zakharova called on OPCW to show the actual reasons, not the fabricated ones, behind the technical secretariat’s abstention from accepting Syria’s invitation to send experts to al-Latamenah town, where it was claimed that the chemical weapon was used there in March 2017.

Earlier, Russia and China had boycotted a UN Security Council meeting through video about the Western allegations claiming that Syria used chemical weapons in Syria.

Zakharova added that the technical committee of the Secretariat fears conducting any tangible professional talk about the Investigation Team it founded and its main tasks in Syria, because all its hostile conclusions against Syria were fabricated in a pre-meditated way.

She affirmed that all OPCW’s reports about Syria are characterized with double standards showing complete disregard of the clear evidence proving the fabricated nature of the chemical events.

Reference should be made to the fact that new leaks by former and current officials at the OPCW have shown the deliberate manipulation of the OPCW’s recent report about the alleged use of chemical weapons in al-Latameneh town in 2017 describing the report as misleading, politicized and full of scientific mistakes.
