Russia, Iran to work on settling crisis in Syria

Moscow, (ST) – Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed, during a phone call on Wednesday with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, a number of bilateral and international issues, including the situation in Syria.

The Kremlin said in a statement carried by “RT” that Putin and Raisi discussed issues of ensuring regional stability and security and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing work within the framework of the Astana process to support the settlement of the crisis in Syria.

The two sides also expressed their high appreciation for the level of Russian-Iranian relations and their mutual endeavor to further develop them, including the implementation of joint projects in the trade and economic fields.

With regard to the situation around Iran’s nuclear program, the two sides stressed the need to continue diplomatic efforts in order to reach a final agreement that would guarantee the preservation of the nuclear agreement signed with Iran and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Putin also expressed to President Raisi his condolences over the train accident that happened this morning in Iran, which killed dozens of people.
