New York, (ST) – Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia stressed that his country supports Syria’s demand for the withdrawal of all foreign forces illegally present in the country.
In a meeting of the UN Security Council on the humanitarian and political situation in Syria, Nebenzia pointed out, according to TASS Agency, that the situation in Syria is still not completely stable, due to the attacks carried out by “Israel” against Syrian infrastructure facilities, and due to the illegal presence of US forces.
Nebenzia said: The situation in the region remains extremely volatile amid the continuation of military operations in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the great risks of the involvement of neighboring countries, and in the meantime, reasons for concern about the humanitarian situation in Syria are increasing.
He referred to the continued presence of hotbeds of terrorism in Idlib and areas of northeastern Syria.
Nebenzia clarified that Russia is convinced that sustainable stability in Syria can only be achieved by putting an end to the illegal foreign military presence, which violates the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and by ending the Israeli occupation acts of aggression against Syria.
Iravani: Western countries bear responsibility for increasing the suffering of the Syrian people
Meanwhile, the Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani stressed that some Western countries bear responsibility for exacerbating the suffering of the Syrian people through illegal occupation and inhumane sanctions imposed on them, politicizing the return of refugees and displaced persons, and obstructing international support for the reconstruction of Syria.
IRNA quoted Iravani as saying during a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East and Syria: The Syrian people are still suffering from humanitarian crises, aggression, foreign occupation, and terrorism. He stressed that the complete, immediate, and unconditional withdrawal of US forces from Syria is necessary for peace and stability in the region.
Iravani called on the international community not to leave the Syrian people alone in the war against terrorism, foreign occupation, and economic terrorism resulting from illegal sanctions. He stressed the need for all to fully respect Syria’s sovereignty, political independence, unity, and territorial integrity in accordance with Security Council resolutions.
Iravani said that any illegal separatist plans are completely rejected. He added that all foreign forces whose presence in Syria is considered illegal by the Syrian government must leave immediately.
Iravani reiterated his country’s strong condemnation of the ongoing attacks launched by the Israeli entity on Syrian territories, which target civilians and vital infrastructure, indicating that Iran will continue to support the political process led by the Syrians.
The Iranian delegate pointed out that Iran is committed to cooperating with partners in the Astana format to work on achieving stability in Syria and to continuing efforts to facilitate reconstruction and the safe return of refugees and displaced persons.
Iravani added that it is unfortunate that Western countries have ignored the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation, and that they are still seeking to implement their political agenda at any cost.
