Russia does not threaten anyone with the use of nuclear weapons, says Ryabkov

Moscow, (ST)- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stressed that Moscow does not threaten to use nuclear weapons. He added that in the Western capitals, the nuclear rhetoric is escalating in an attempt to make it appear that Moscow is preparing to use weapons of mass destruction.

“The document on the basics of the Russian Federation’s state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence, which was approved by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, clearly defines the conditions for its application,” Ryabkov told Sputnik. He stressed that Russia does not threaten any country with the use of this weapon.

According to the document, Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of receiving reliable information about the launch of ballistic missiles to attack the territories of Russia or its allies, the use of nuclear weapons or other types of weapons of mass destruction on the territories of Russia and its allies, as well as the enemy’s threat to military facilities.

Ryabkov warned Washington and Western capitals of the danger of uncontrolled escalation, stressing the involvement of the United States and Europe in the conflict over Ukraine.
