Russia denies siding with Ethiopia over the Renaissance Dam

Cairo (ST): The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Egypt, Georgy Borisenko, denied the allegations that his country sided with Ethiopia in the file of the Renaissance Dam, stressing the need for Addis Ababa to understand Cairo’s concerns in this regard.

Russia Today website quoted Borisenko as saying in a televised interview: “We understand that the population of Egypt is increasing rapidly, and there are currently more than 100 million people, and of course it has a great need for water, so Russia has very much appealed to its Ethiopian friends and allies to take into account the Egyptian concerns.”

He added, “We talked with our Ethiopian partners about the need for them to remember that this river is shared by many different countries and it is necessary to have good relations between the neighbors.”
