On March 24th, Russia strongly criticized the British draft resolution on the human rights situation in Syria, stressing that it is “completely biased.”
“The document is completely biased and based on unproven stories, false beliefs, and deliberately distorting reality and is blatantly politicized,” TASS news agency quoted the representative of the Russian delegation to the Human Rights Council, Dmitry Vorobyov as saying.
It is noteworthy that the Human Rights Council considered a draft resolution submitted by Britain on behalf of a group including Turkey, Israel, Qatar, Germany, France and the United States on the human rights situation in Syria.
The vote by the Council showed a clear division among its members, as 6 member states opposed the draft resolution. Russia, Armenia, Bolivia, China, Cuba and Venezuela and 14 other countries abstained.
