Russia condemns the European Union’s illegal sanctions against Syria and calls for its immediate lifting

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the unfair and illegal sanctions imposed by the European Union against Syria, calling for lifting them immediately in order to face the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website today that we call on the European Union to lift unilateral sanctions against Syria and we suggest the solidarity of the EU with the Syrian people and stand by it in its response to the grave threat which is represented in the Coronapandemic that affects everyone without exception .

The ministry pointed out that the European Union sanctions against Syria are unilateral and originally illegitimate and taken from outside the Security Council in a circumvent manner in the same way as it was previously holding the process of delivering humanitarian aid to Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the continuation of the implementation of those sanctions in the circumstances of the spread of the Corona pandemic is inhuman and contradicts the call of the UN Secretary-General on easing and stopping international restrictions that hinder the fight against this epidemic.
