Russia Condemns Terrorists’ Attacks on Residential Areas in Damascus, Urges Unifying International Anti-Terror Efforts

MOSCOW, (ST)- The Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned the terrorist groups’ mortar attacks which targeted the Russian Embassy in Damascus and several residential areas in the city, reiterating the need to unify international efforts as to fight terrorism in Syria and the region.

 Yesterday, the terrorist groups launched mortar attack on the Russian Embassy in Damascus.

 Sputnik news agency cited the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement that two mortar shells, launched supposedly from the district of Jobar in Damascus controlled by Jabhat al-Nusra and Faylaq Al-Rahman terror groups, exploded not far from the external perimeter of the embassy. Fortunately, there were no casualties or damage.

  “We strongly condemn terrorist raids against the Russian diplomatic mission and the peaceful neighborhoods of Damascus,” the ministry said, adding that “Russia’s principled approach to the determined and uncompromising combat with the terrorists in Syria will continue.”

“Once again, we urge the international community to consolidate efforts, based on the international legal framework, to more quickly eradicate the dangerous terrorist hotbed in Syria and the region overall, the ministry stressed.
